Picked up this String of Hearts from Sprouts about two months ago and immediately quarantined it and did a couple proactive pest treatments… glanced at it today after cleaning the shower to see that the water droplets/steam ever so graciously highlighted spider mite webbing. The string of pearls that I also bought from the same place and quarantined on the other bathroom shelf had the same crap.

Great reminder… just hard to always do 💚

Such a great reminder. I am never going to do it, but great reminder.

I had an ivy be absolutely decimated by spider mites. This was a year ago.

Not that long ago, I found what looked like mites on some of my other plants. Some soap and water ended that problem but those fuckers are tough to beat

Hmm. I usually feel confident in saying spidermites vs regular spiders, but, this one actually has me a bit stumped. With spidermite webs, you’d typically see the spidermites moving about on them (you don’t get webs from them until it’s a pretty big infestation). Have you seen movement on these webs– if not, it’s quite possibly a regular spider web.

The reason why I say this is that these webs look a bit more geometric than what I’m used to seeing from mites, which tend to be more dense and way less geometric.

It looks a bit like the webs/nests that the jumping spiders in my yard make

It’s just a normal spiderweb, spider mite webs look different

I think this is just a regular spider

That’s just a regular spider , not mites … u can unclench and relax 😀

I didn’t do this once and suffered a catastrophic gnat infestation. Never again!! Almost took out my black pagoda and black krohniana (not sure if I spelled that right).

My quarantine is typically in the kitchen where we keep plants that aren’t as dear/special. I have all my office plants home for the summer so we are tight on space

I’m getting a little too comfortable with not quarantining my new plants and I just know it’s coming back to bite me in the ass soon… thanks for the reminder, can’t promise I’ll listen 😋🪴

Occasional DE, neem, and cover top soil with mosquito bits. 70 plants scattered around and never had an insect issue.

That’s quite a big and established string of hearts. Real shame if it is indeed spider mites. Were you able to confirm one or the other? I hope it was just a resident spider
